You know I’ve never looked at Reishin’s relationship with Kouyuu that way! He has mooned over Shuurei since she was a baby and its obvious to everyone how he feels about her.

I like how in the late novel Shuurei comments to herself that Reishin acts weird and was looking at her funny ^^

Of course Kouyuu would have had it best if Shouka had picked him up.

Did the novel mention what place Reishin and Houju got? Even though i guess they would have been in the top three since almost everyone else failed the exams that year.^^
Due to their positions I assume that Reishin was 2nd and Houju 3rd

Haha, indeed. Reishin is one of my favorite Saiunkoku characters, and he’s actually one of the more interesting characters, because he has such glaring flaws.

However, as I read on, I tend to start thinking that Kouyuu actually lucked out that Reishin is rather cold to him, if the alternative is how he behaves towards Shuurei.

Just wanted to say that this bit totally cracked me up. You totally hit the nail on the head – one of the reasons behind my love-hate relationship with Reishin is precisely because he keeps insisting on being all cold and aloof to Kouyuu despite the fact that he actually really loves him alot. I suppose that’s what makes his character so interesting, but it still annoys me every time he’s so cold to poor Kouyuu. ^_^;;
