Ryuuki got up the courage, and asked something that he had been actually really wondering about.
“You were a little bit j-j-j-j-jealous?”
Shuurei thought a bit. Then she slowly, but forthrightly let out her thoughts.
“…..Maybe a little bit. When I heard Jyuusan-hime was coming, my heart began to pound.”
“Really?!”
“Mmm. But I think I might also be jealous if Seiran were to get married.”
Ryuuki had an ambiguous feeling. However, Shuurei was probably being honest. If you thought about it that way, for Ryuuki, if Seiran were to marry an unknown woman other than Shuurei, he would probably also be jealous.
“But, I would work to wish them happiness together from the bottom of my heart.”
That was how things were. Ryuuki’s feelings for Seiran were not romantic love. But he was someone whom Ryuuki loved more than anyone, someone irreplaceable to him. For Shuurei, both Ryuuki and Seiran were that. Perhaps if Ryuuki tossed the question he had not asked Shuurei yet, she would give him a bit of the answer he wished for. He didn’t think that she did not like him, nor that she did not love him. But when Shuurei loved someone, she would only not attach a name to that love. If it were named, it would end up being bound up and a burden. Unwanted feelings would come as well. Their positions and responsibilities were too heavy for her to stay together with Ryuuki. He had no leeway or free time to overcome this. Already three turbulent years had passed since the succession. Therefore, Shuurei would not attach a name to her feelings of liking for Ryuuki. For her to stay at his side, unswervingly, no matter what happened, this was the only path. If she were to love him, separation, obsession, hatred, and jealousy would follow. And if so, she could not become Ryuuki’s official.
So, Shuurei did not love Ryuuki romantically. He was important to her because she loved him, but she wasn’t in love with him. Somewhere in his heart, Ryuuki also realized this.
Even so, Shuurei had left him this last ground. That was because she knew Ryuuki was not giving up.

Um, no, it isn’t. You might have misunderstood because there are actually fifteen books out, but the novels and gaidens are counted separately.

oh. but if you check wikipedia, there’s already a volume 13 (separate from the other 3 gaidens). last time i checked it novels were only til 12 but then now there’s already a 13.. i was just wondering since wikipedia could also be wrong 🙂

Nothing on the Saiunkoku website, and it’s not there in the Japanese version. I think someone is posting erroneous data to Wikipedia.

Good to see a translation of the original japanese text. What I read was the chinese one so there’s a slight difference in tone and feeling.
When reading the chinese text, it felt more as if Shuurei did indeed have feelings, and was worried that if she gave it a name, she herself would start to waver and that would spoil things…
Did you get that same feeling from the original Japanese text?

I can’t really answer your question because I don’t read Chinese… maybe you should ask someone who knows both languages to look at both and see what they think?

Is Ryuuki just grasping at straws?
Then again he really appreciates brotherly or sibling love so, Shuurei alluding that she loves him the way he loves Seiran or the way Seiran loves him, would give Ryuuki some hope.
My question, is he saying he wouldn’t mind if Shuurei marries Seiran?

I think her saying that was totally the opposite of her giving him hope.
No, I don’t think he is saying that. He’s probably talking about jealousy issues involving his brother, rather than saying he would be okay with that, as I read it.
