Near the end of vol 14: super spoilery.

From book 14, near the end.

I am working on more translations, fear not. I have made drafts of at leat three sections, and am working on revising them and translating more.

BTW, I would like to address a misconception: the current Saiunkoku novels are not serialized in The Beans magazine. Only the short stories (the parts collected in the Gaiden) are serialized in the magazine. The magazine comes out twice a year. Sometimes, as well, the short stories in the gaiden are original and have no previously been serialized in the magazine. There is also no concrete information on how many novels there will eventually be.

Anyway, for people who are bored while waiting for more translations, or if you have no interest in translations and are just waiting for the novel or short story to come out (the next short story comes out in January), and enjoy fanfiction, there are some comms on LJ which you may be interested in. Please note that these comms may contain adult material or material otherwise unsuited for children or the sensitive.

Saiunkoku_fic: a general Saiunkoku fanfiction comm.
Saiun_challenge: a challenge comm for fanfic. Every week there is a different challenge, and winners get a banner. I am sure they would be interested in new players and readers.

Finally, someone suggested that I write some character profiles on some of the characters who appear later in the series (not in the first season of the anime), because she was having a hard time keeping them straight. Do you have any suggestions for particular characters? Please put them in the comments.

Second part of the summary of the fourteenth novel. (Well, actually seventeenth if you count gaidens, but they seem not to. IIRC they have enough in uncollected short stories to make another gaiden, so the series may end up being over twenty books >_> )

And now, the summary. It may help to read back on some of my old translations, especially if you’ve only seen the anime, since the anime removes a lot of the scenes that foreshadow some of the revelations in this. I do think, though, that the author was a bit fast with some of these developments, and should have foreshadowed them much better, but I’ll save that for the comments.
