I’ve been thinking: although this site is much better for disseminating information than LJ because it has a search function, wouldn’t it be better if someone made a GOOD website for Saiunkoku information? However, I don’t really have the time to make a website. But, what if someone(s)… made a wiki dedicated to the series? Since a wiki is collabortive, that would give people in the fandom something to do.

I’m not sure if having a search box on the blog’s interface is a good measure of it’s capacity for information dissemination, since we can just do ____ site:yuzutea.net. Even if a blog were not to have a search box, its content can be disseminated in many “meta ways”, i.e. author, anitations, nano, antennae, etc.
Technically speaking, a blog post is a blog post – what makes it meta to varying degrees is how other, outside people/blogs/spaces create links to it. In this sense, even an ani-nouto post isn’t meta until someone writes a post on author’s post.
Once the technical and real links are established between places, then it’s up to more abstract, social/psychological functions to actually get people to use those highways between spaces.

Well, I don’t think it means it’s an AWESOME one, but consider that many LJs have google disabled, etc. For some reason LJ is pretty difficult to google search, even if it is turned on, also.
Ani-nouto? What is that? Anyhow, my point wasn’t to claim that this blog was a great way of disseminating information (and no one links to it except for that list of translations, woe), but to wonder if a wiki was a good idea…

Actually, I tried starting one for awhile – mainly because I kept getting confused with the character names and their backgrounds. Eventually I gave up because of the sheer amount of characters and plot lines. Of course, the fact that I only read the last three novels (plus the gaidens) and relied mainly on the anime and spoilers gleaned from Wikipedia JP didn’t help.
I think only someone with adequate exposure (and lasting motivation) to the series overall would be able to undertake such a daunting task ~_~; And I’m not saying to “provide” the information but at least to moderate and correct mistakes.
Oops, just my 2 cents

Do you mean a wiki? Or just a web page? Well, I can at least moderate and correct mistakes. It just seems really boring to me to have to ALL of the work. XD
April 6, 2009 at 12:02 am
Yeah, it was a wiki – I would have linked it here but I ended up deleting it a year ago when I moved servers.
I’ll try to scavenge it from my backups sometime tomorrow and put it up so that you and others can take a look. It’s not much and also full of spoilers since it was originally geared towards a closed circle of rabid Saimono friends and just wanted a place to jot down “notes”.
You can see if you’ll be able/want to work with it – or provide some suggestions to improve it.

Thanks! I was thinking maybe I could get some people from the LJ community interested in the idea…
(Wow, you know a lot of rabid Saimono fans? I hardly meet anyone on this blog. T_T)
April 6, 2009 at 11:10 am
Haha, “a lot of rabid Saimono fans” actually equates to two other, making it the three of us. We used to hang out on IRC chatting non-stop about Saimono.
Unfortunately, we cooled down over the past year and at this point, I think I’m the only one who still keeps up with the series (ie. stalking the right sources of information) – but I’ve yet to find time to finish the latest novel that’s been collecting dust on the shelf. And there’s also the “Unmei no deau yoru” gaiden that I was dying to read but is still sitting on my desk (BTW, do you know if the kouhen is getting published anytime soon?). Must… find … time!
Anyway, back to topic, here’s the link to the (revived) wiki: http://saiunkoku.sigh.org/
I just noticed it’s quite empty … orz. I guess I have to admit the only sections that were properly filled out were Reishin and Houju’s profile – and that was because they were our favorite characters. Haha.
I think one issue that came up was how to organize the characters (and other information from the series). Wikipedia JP lists them by the provinces which didn’t work too well (in my opinion) because people travel – a prime example being Yuushun who started out in Sa-shuu, then went to the capital and now we find out that he’s original from Kou.
Anyway, I’ll leave you to take a look for now – the wiki engine that is used to power the website is over a year old so I’ll have to update it – which means things will break. But I don’t want to spend the time to do that until I’m sure there’s enough interest to continue the project
April 6, 2009 at 3:32 pm
Thanks, I’ll check it out.
Hah, well, sometimes I am on IRC, so if you ever want to chat.. Yeah, I haven’t heard anything about the continuation of that gaiden. I am guessing we’ll have to wait until August/July/whenever the biyearly next issue is published?
I agree. I’m not sure what the best way to list them would be. Maybe by alphabetical order? Or family name? I’ll post information on this later to the LJ comm, and other communities (huh, are there other Saiunkoku groups?)
(BTW, what software is this? I’ve seen mediawiki, but I’ve never used it myself)

hi, your blog is wonderful . everything is fine in your blog . you can just add pictures ,some good from novel that would be enough. really speaking we cannot find any english translations about saimono other than you .when we saw lj only some opened for us .some chapters didnot opened even we logged in. please translating for us-INDIAN ryuuki fans, so atlast for us ultimaetly best is your blog.
April 6, 2009 at 3:23 pm
Oh, but that means that only I could add the pictures. But if it were a wiki someone else could add them, you see? Anyway, for LJ what you need to do is join the community. Joining the site won’t allow you to read all the posts.

T_T…unfortunately LJ is unavailable in here… blocked by the authority…
They even blocked wikipedia once…
April 6, 2009 at 9:12 pm
Yeah, I know. That’s why I think we shouldn’t rely on LJ for fandom, but instead make our own sites (like this one!)
April 7, 2009 at 9:16 pm
that’s nice~~a place for the GLOBAL fandom ^^
April 7, 2009 at 12:15 pm

April 7, 2009 at 7:53 pm
I think I said this in the other entry, but it’s going to be stories that were previously published in the magazine. It’s not going to continue the main story.

Reply to Ruby: Exactly.
