I’m actually not sure who the female character is supposed to be. Many of the Japanese fans are saying it’s (young) Ruka.
EDIT: According to the Animate Message page, it is Ruka. (it seems to be some kind of promotional material by Animate with some info about the novel on it) The other characters who appear on the page are, besides Shuurei and Ryuuki, Riou Jr., Riou Sr., Ruka, Uu Uu, Suou, and Shuuei. Shuuei’s being on there is interesting. Perhaps he may play a major role in the story?

Judging by the outfit, yeah, I’m gonna say Ruka. It looks like what her spirit was wearing in the anime.

Anime hair color doesn’t always match novel/manga hair color.

Yeah, that’s true but I don’t think I’ve ever seen it where “light” hair in one medium becomes “dark” hair in another.
Anyway, today I saw on LJ that some fans think that the mystery lady might be Barahime.

It would indeed be nice to have Shuuei play an important role here. I mean, I don’t know how accurate the Anime is but it seems as though his family have familiar ties with the Hyou clan and if they are the ones responsible for Shuurei’s disappearance, it makes sense that perhaps Shuuei would be of some help although I suppose Shouka won’t rest until he recovers his own daughter.

Yeah, it’s fairly uncertain what his role may be. Perhaps since this time the focus will almost certainly be heavily on the Hyou clan there might be some development of what happened to Shusui as well.
